350-375 grain .510 GC

Postby bigboar » Wed Feb 05, 2014 7:29 pm

I am looking for a mold for my 510 GNR. I would like a 350-375 grain .510 GC with a 75% meplate. Is this something that can be done?

At first I wondered why you had to ask the question because revolver bullets are usually no-brainers. But then I went to the design program and quickly learned that it is a short bullet that may not have room for a lube groove. Ah ..... 8-)

If you stick with a conventional nose that is say, 0.400" long, there will be no lube groove other than above the gas check. But that's fine, it'll work. The lube does not care if it is on a gas check shank or on a conventional lube groove. :)

If you prefer to have a conventional lube groove, you can shorten the nose and drop the GtoB down to 0.8, like this. It'll seat deeper in the case, reducing the powder space, You'll have to decide whether that is a good thing or a bad thing for your intended application.
